Perhaps you want to add a splash of color to your garden. Maybe you love strange-smelling plants that have interesting stories you can tell your friends. Or you just want your home to have beautiful and interesting curb appeal.

Whatever your motive, Cardinal Landscaping will give you some great ideas to revitalize your garden. Over the years we have been studying the Florida landscape to help you get the right plant in the right place. Florida Native Plants require less water, fertilizer, and pesticides, thus benefiting our threatened environment. As shelter and food for birds, butterflies and other wildlife, native plants also support diverse ecosystems. Most of the plants sold in mainstream garden centers are exotic (meaning non-native). These plants come from all over the world. While many exotic plants are beneficial as edibles or ornamentals, some establish themselves outside of cultivation and disrupt the natural ecology of Florida. This is where we come in. We have carefully selected many different flowers, tree's, and shrubs that grow very well and have proven track records in neighborhoods and developments throughout Florida. You can start by browsing some of the plants below. Click any photo to view a larger image.

More on native plants :

It has been argued that while native plants can survive well under undisturbed conditions, the proof for their superior survival under the disturbed conditions of a building site has not been obtained. While rigorous proof for their superior survivability may be lacking, native plants have at least evolved under the difficult Florida climate that alternates drought with flooding, and they have grown in soils with limited fertility under natural rainfall. Plants not native to this area may lack the ability to thrive here without large inputs of water and fertilizer, and may be overly prone to disease. As always, plants should be selected for their ability to thrive on the particular microsite.
